is there a way to remove that shimmer effect on enchanted items? Removing it from specific ones would be best, but if you can only do it to all or none, I'll take all.
The other way around this... can you write a script that when the pc is wearing clothing, or carrying a weapon, the script adds an enchantment (as if the item was enchanted), and when the item is dropped or just in inventory, the enchantment is off?

both options are possable, but the first is much easier.
on your TESCS cd, in the data files>textures folder, you will find another folder called magicitem. THe textures in there are the textures that control how teh magic effect looks. Copy them to the same folder on your hard drive and use a paint program to make them look how ever you want. Painting them all black will remove the effect entirely.
or even easier, go download one of the mods that has this done for you. I use one that makes the effect look like electricity, looks pretty cool. but there are some that remove the effect completly.

No-Glo
My favorite is the Shimmer redux. It makes it look like electricity like kwshipman said.

The shimmer redux is good because there is still some form of the enchantment effect but not the plastic effect. The things pulse with electricity with it. Looks really good but it is not that noticeable. It ia a big improvement. Might also want to look into the mod that changes the blue swirl on the enchanted item icons. It looks good and no .ESP is needed. I can't find the link right nwo or it would be here.
